Balm of Gilead (Cedronella canariensis), also known as False Balm of Gilead, grows around 3 feet tall and about as wide. It develops pink, one inch long, flower heads that butterflies and hummingbirds are attracted to. Likes full sun to part shade. The leaves have a strong smell of camphor, eucalyptus, and mint. It is used medicinally. It is used to make Canary tea. Scarify seed lightly on sandpaper and sow in spring. Barely cover, tamp well and keep evenly moist until germination, which tends to be slow and spotty.
